Why not acadaemia?

Well... and you'll have to bear in mind that I'm a little drunk here, and inclined to be a little franker than normal... Essentially, once you get past the altruism of doing something to further mankind's knowledge, you realise that you're working sixty to seventy hour weeks for a pittance - and there's only so far that altruism can take you. Once you realise that you're being exploited, and that a continuing career in acadaemia won't improve things, you ultimately decide that anything would be better - I mean, frankly, you could work fewer hours, and get more pay from waiting tables in a restaurant. There's only so much crap you can put up with before you decide that it's really not worth enduring the academic life. So yeah, that's the arguments in a nutshell... - MykReeve 00:20, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
