Australian Colonial History project (personal project at the moment... but trying to rope in others)
Colonial Australia page
I'd like to make a page on Colonial Australia which gives an overview of life in the colony, issues, etc, more from a social history POV than the existing History of Australia before 1901. Possible section headings:
- Settlement
- Government/politics/law
- Population
- Economy
- Family life
- Crime and punishment
- Culture
- Representations in literature, film, etc
Categories
There should be better coverage of Australian history in the categories on WP.
Existing categories to fill out:
As yet unformed (or unknown) categories:
- an overall Australian History category
- Australian colonial people
- Australian exploration
Coverage of important categories of stuff
People:
- Governors of colonies
- Explorers
- Bushrangers
- important colonial figures eg major landowners, businessmen, politicians, etc
Places:
- Settlements
- Penal colonies
- Heritage sites (eg Hyde Park Barracks)
