Introduction

Welcome and thanks for dropping by. I caught the Wikipedia bug during the spring of 2005 when I realized how accurate and timely it had become, and how often I was relying on it for many personal and professional uses. I am honored to be a small contributor to this incredible project, and I am at your service.

Oh, yes, about the name: it's a commonly taught (although oversimplified) mnemonic device used to help children learn the sequence of light in the visible spectrum. "R" stands for "red," then "O" for "orange", and so on through yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. (There is, of course, a Wikipedia article on the ROYGBIV mnemonic.) I like it because it connects several areas of interest (physics, painting, photography, and education) and because I like the idea of being part of a spectrum of contributors and world citizens. It's corny, but I dig it.
