Used Wikipedia as “Krekar source”
By MORTEN ØVERBYE
OSLO TINGRETT (VG NETT) Norwegian authorities used Wikipedia as one of their sources for information in the case against Mullah Krekar. In court today, Norwegian Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Erna Solberg, could not give an answer to what Wikipedia is.
The open internet encyclopædia Wikipedia.org, where everyone can add information, was one of the Department for Local and Regional Affairs' sources for the information behind the trial commenced by Norwegian officials, in an attempt to get Mullah Krekar expelled.
The department uncritically used the unverified information.
– Do you know what Wikipedia is? Krekar's lawyer Brynjar Meling asked Solberg in court today.
– No, Solberg answered.
– And you haven't examined how this article came to be published at Wikipedia?
– I'm sure someone has. But like I said, I don't know what Wikipedia is.
– So none of your control questions have been about Wikipedia?
– My control questions have been about the variety of source material, Solberg said.
After the explaination, Erna Solberg seemed to be overall pleased.
– I think it went OK. We presented our case, but there are many documents involved, and it's a lot to keep track of, Solberg says to VG Nett.
