Joachim "Jo" Stöhr (b-) is an x-ray physicist and Professor at Stanford University. His studies of magentic materials have led to discoveries regarding the speed at which magnetized bits can change directions, and the origin of liquid crystal alignment on rubbed polymer films (such as those used in LCD flat panel displays).

Honors

In October 2005, Stöhr was named the Director of the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, a Department of Energy National User Facility at SLAC National Laboratory.
