German submarine U-1195 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine.
Her keel was laid down 6 February 1943, by F. Schichau, of Danzig. She was commissioned 4 November 1943.[1]
Design
German Type VIIC submarines were preceded by the shorter Type VIIB submarines. She had two shafts and two Script error: No such module "convert". propellers. The boat was capable of operating at depths of up to Script error: No such module "convert"..Template:Sfn
The submarine had a maximum surface speed of Script error: No such module "convert". and a maximum submerged speed of Script error: No such module "convert"..Template:Sfn When submerged, the boat could operate for Script error: No such module "convert". at Script error: No such module "convert".; when surfaced, she could travel Script error: No such module "convert". at Script error: No such module "convert".. U-1195 was fitted with five Script error: No such module "convert". torpedo tubes (four fitted at the bow and one at the stern), fourteen torpedoes, one Script error: No such module "convert". SK C/35 naval gun, (220 rounds), one Script error: No such module "convert". Flak M42 and two twin Script error: No such module "convert". C/30 anti-aircraft guns. The boat had a complement of between forty-four and sixty.Template:Sfn
Service history
Under the command of Ernst Cordes, she sank the Liberty Ship John R. Park.[2][3] on 21 March 1945. Another account suggests the ship sunk was the Script error: No such module "WPSHIPS utilities".[4] though this sinking is usually credited to Template:GS.[5]
U-1195 attacked Convoy VWP 16 in the English Channel, sinking the troop transport Script error: No such module "WPSHIPS utilities".[6] on 6 April 1945. She was sunk by one of the convoyTemplate:'s escorts, the Royal Navy destroyer Script error: No such module "WPSHIPS utilities"., using a Hedgehog antisubmarine mortar[7] on 7 April 1945 to the southeast of the Isle of Wight at Script error: No such module "Coordinates". (WGS84) in 30 metres (98 feet) of water.[6] Fifty crew members were alive when she sank; however, only 14 survived.[3][8] Kemp reports the crew had to make a risky underwater escape from the wrecked vessel.[9]
