History

Uniontown was platted on March 1, 1859, by George King and Cornelius Conway. The community developed as a small rural settlement and has remained unincorporated since its founding. In the early 20th century, Uniontown featured establishments such as a general store and a lodge hall that served as a social center for residents. The Marling School, established in 1917, was named in honor of Walter and Spencer Marling, two brothers from the area who were killed in the Civil War. In the 1980s, Uniontown gained brief national attention when musician John Mellencamp filmed a music video in the town, utilizing its streets and storefronts as a backdrop.[2][3][4]
