The first post office in Ulysses was established in 1869.[1] The village is named for Ulysses S. Grant.[2]

2010 census
As of the census[5] of 2010, there were 171 people, 74 households, and 50 families living in the village. The population density was Script error: No such module "convert".. There were 105 housing units at an average density of Script error: No such module "convert".. The racial makeup of the village was 98.8% White and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
There were 74 households, of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.4% were non-families. 31.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.84.
The median age in the village was 43.8 years. 25.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 2.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.7% were from 25 to 44; 31.5% were from 45 to 64; and 17.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 50.9% male and 49.1% female.

The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 29.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
