I have created Template:Wikisource author2 in order to fix the problem of alias-ing authors whose source names are different from their wikipedia names. G. K. Chesterton on source is Gilbert Keith Chesterton so that version should account for that. gren グレン 00:43, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Clickable image

Template:Tnull Please add this to the image code : |link=s:{{{1|Special:Search/{{PAGENAME}}}}} so when clicking on the image, it brings you to the wikisource page.-- penubag  (talk) 06:12, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template:Tl Please replace this template with the contents of the sandbox. It uses the "new" Template:Tlx template and moves the categories and iws to a subpage. TIA. —Ms2ger (talk) 10:09, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposal: amend template to utilise Wikidata for linking

I would like to propose that this template is converted to utilise the Wikidata to link through to Wikisource, as per infoboxes. The current template usage has errors either due to the title, or for pages having been moved at English Wikisource. If we utilise the wikidata then we have correct links at all times.

I would think that we would allow overwriting of template with forced parameter, at least while we get a bot to update the uses. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:30, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Code in Template:Wikisource author/sandbox, try it in Edward Denison (bishop), add

{{wikisource author|Edward Denison}} {{wikisource author/sandbox|Edward Denison}} {{wikisource author/sandbox}} and preview the article. — billinghurst sDrewth 17:14, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Please add the language parameter so we can link to authors on other languages

For example, see Zygmunt_Krasiński#External_links: "Wikisource has original works written by or about: Zygmunt Krasiński" but "Polish Wikisource has original text related to this article: Zygmunt Krasiński". There should be an option to have the second one read "Polish Wikisource has original works written by or about: Zygmunt Krasiński". --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:02, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Update by removing the word "written"

Since Wikisource now has author pages for illustrators and film directors, I think this template should no longer say, "Wikisource has original works written by or about X." Instead, it should just say, "Wikisource has original works by or about X." Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 03:43, 22 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Template:Ping Thank you. And I will follow your advice next time I feel such a template needs editing. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 23:54, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

"by or about"

Currently the label always says "Wikisource has original works by or about:". I'd like an option to be able to change this to specify if there are just works by the author, just works about them, or both, as I think this will make it a bit less vague than "by or about", and hopefully make readers more likely to click through.

I've added a Template:Para parameter in the template sandbox (the testcases are working as expected), that allows Template:Para Template:Para or Template:Para, with "by or about" remaining the default. If there's consensus (or no objections!) I'll put in a Template:Tl and if approved will add it to the template docs (currently thinking that we should only advise specifying this to advertise fully transcluded works by and/or about them on the author page, not just works with external/in progress links). What do you think? ‑‑YodinT 09:43, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template:Edit template-protected

Without any objections, I've put in an edit request. The only changes are live in the template sandbox (diff) and working correctly on the testcases page. ‑‑YodinT 11:29, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Process of "merging"

For some reason a merging proposal is made for this template. The box on the template-page says that it will be deleted. I think that is something different, by the way.

But my question is: what do we do as long as the new wikisource-template (after the "merging") is not yet ready? Or is it already merged, but then my question is: how do we use the new "merged" template?

--Dick Bos (talk) 20:44, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I asked a question here more than two months ago. Still waiting for the answer. To my humble opinion the whole idea of merging this template is completely incorrect, as I have stated earlier. This applies especially to this template, that links to the author-namespace in wikisource. I did not see any valid arguments for "merging" and I saw an important group of opponents in the "closed" discussion of more than a year ago here. In the meantime, nothing has happened. I shall continue to use the template, as long as no clear policy is given. --Dick Bos (talk) 19:03, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
