Template talk:R from ASCII-only

Purpose

And what exactly is this template for? Promoting higher bandwidth usage? Halibutt 22:11, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

I found it useful. I'm categorizing redirects for an eventual paper edition, and was able to use the template to put all ASCII redirects into Category:Unprintworthy redirects, since "See: Spelled exactly the same, minus the dots and squiggles" in an alphebatized print volume is a waste of space. That's just my hack of the system, tho': the real reson d'ee of this template is that categories & text appended to redirects are automatically deleted if they're not all on the same line as the redirect itself. The template allows an easy escape from this quirk of the system.--Joel 23:49, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Description

I'm going to un-link the word diacritic. There's simply no need for the diacritic page to have thousands of "What Links Here" references to redirects that are not about diacritics (by definition). Anybody that's confused about the meaning of the word can easily look at the category page. Same for "See also".

Deprecated

Hi, using templates within redirects is deprecated, so the {{R from...}} templates shouldn't be used anymore, although categories in redirects are probably safe. See discussion. Wmahan. 05:16, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Template & /doc code needs fixing

Template:Tlx Hi- I think there are errors in the code, some of the categories on the /doc pg need to be in "includeonly" on the template page. The ones in "includeonly" on the /doc pg would only categorize the template, not its transclusions, right? --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:11, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

  Thank you and to be frank with you, Tech, I know what basic ASCII looks like. It's a 7-bit code of ones and zeros, and perhaps that was needed long ago. Template:To – wonder if you could do me a favor and lower the move protection to include template editors or, if you feel this template should retain its full move protection, would you be so kind as to move this template as follows?

This uncontroversial move is to a name that is more descriptive and coincides with a proposal to move the category in this discussion.
