I don't agree that Zhang Chongren is only notable for being friends with Herge - searching by his name in Chinese characters in academic databases shows academic articles written about his art and career in Chinese, which seems to point to him playing a role in bringing a Western influence to Chinese art (not that I can read Chinese). It may be that info is not available in English. I do think most of the info on this page is taken from biographies of Herge and that should probably be pared down dramatically, as it doesn't seem his life centered around that friendship. puptaur
Does this person really deserve an entry? I mean, it looks like he is only significant because he was a friend of Hergé. If we decide to keep it, most of the information from the Hergé article about him should be moved to this article. Otherwise, this entry is pointless. It gives no context as to why he was significant in Hergé's life or how he influenced him. All just MHO of course... —Frecklefoot 18:39, 29 Jul 2003 (UTC)
There are people who have been significant just as a friend of somebody. I believe that this is one such case, where Chang was basically a muse for Hergé (or a catalyst, to give it a more down-to-earth label).
I agree that most of the info on Chang should be moved from the Hergé articles to here.
(On a more general level, I believe that no subject is too arcane for Wikipedia. Saying 'this belongs here' and 'this does not belong here', is elitist. Elitism works when you have an elite, not when everyone can be editor. That is not to say that Wikipedia's articles cannot be coherent--just that the subject choice cannot be limited.) branko
