Updating West Wing Map
Hello — I am fairly new to both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, so I apologize if this is a bad question.
I was updating the Roosevelt Room's map and I extracted an SVG from a West Wing Tour booklet from the archived Obama whitehouse.gov to get a map of the West Wing. I am fairly certain that this should be under a free license or public domain — their copyright policy claims "Except where otherwise noted, third-party content on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License" (there is no copyright notice) and an archivist told me (in regards to a different image): "All content on the archived Obama White House websites and social media, and National Archives Catalog is in the public domain and does not require permissions or licensing for use". I can ask them again if it's necessary — though.
I think there would be some value in a new West Wing map. Using text instead of paths would in general be helpful. It's also likely a bit more accurate -- this article, CBS News - Here's the West Wing seating chart (2025) shows a map that seem to have used the same graphic used in the booklet.
Do you have any thoughts? I am open to editing the design of the map too, the gray/white color is not so easy on the eyes and it's a bit too complicated. JeremyNguyenGCI (talk) 08:04, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
