Simple list of component states

The article could be improved by listing the states comprising West Germany, similar to the article on East Germany. The closest that the article comes is in mentioning changes, such as a merger in 1952, and an addition in 1957. 57.140.16.8 (talk) 17:06, 7 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Country is still existing

There are repeatedly attempts to describe West Germany as a country that no longer exists. Please be aware that this was the name for the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 til 1990. From 1990 on the common English name for the same country is "Germany". Nillurcheier (talk) 18:10, 27 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Same as Nazi Germany, they used past tense, but not using "common English name" due to a lack of undue weight. Template:Tq Absolutiva (talk) 02:13, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I do not understand, what you mean. But there is no former country. There is no viewpoint that the FRG has somehow ceased to exist. Nillurcheier (talk) 10:32, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
West Germany no longer exists, even though the FRG still exists. Same state, different countries. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 19:35, 2 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, that's wrong. The FRG "Federal Republic of Germany" has existed from 1949 through 1990 to this day. Nothing has changed about that in 1990. Additional states were added to the federation in 1990. That's all. No new state or country was formed in 1990. It was called "Federal Republic of Germany" before 1990 and after as well. It just continued to exist. What was changed was the colloquial name "West Germany" no longer made sense to use, because there was just one Germany left now, so people started calling it "Germany". But it's not like the two stated GDR and FRG stopped existing and formed a third new state. Instead GDR ceased to exist and the territories joined the federation of the FRG and the FRG continued to exist. That's the point of the poster. It's misleading to represent it as there being a West German state prior to 1990 that is different to the current German state. 78.50.181.53 (talk) 07:39, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well described. Think about it: Was there a new country everytime a state or territory joined the USA? Your answer can be transfered to the FRG. in 57 Saarland joined, in 90 the eastern states accessed. Nillurcheier (talk) 08:35, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
