His last letter is more or less

"The hour of departure has now come for me. I have endured everything that a man can endure during the time of my imprisonment. Illness and physical and mental agonies, nothing has been spared me. I would have gladly experienced again after the war, together with you, my friends and sports comrades, the luxuries and conveniences of life, which I now doubly appreciate. There were beautiful hours, which I have spent with you, and I have survived in my prison term on them and wished to myself to have this wonderful time back. Fate has determined now, unfortunately, after a long time of grief, differently. I know however, that I have found in your hearts and also of many sport fans a place, which I will always occupy therein. This consciousness makes me proud and strong and I will not be weak in my last hour."

, but this should be checked by a better translator than me before being put in the article. - Nunh-huh 02:42, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
