Map is surely a waste of space!

as a foreigner I am utterly ignorant of the significance of "W1A" which an English buddy tried to explain... alas... this was after too many tequilia shooters... can any of you natives offer links to sites (or book titles) regarding the deep history of this postal zone? the economic significance? cultural impact?
