Luc Girouard
This article cites Luc Girouard as the first white man to settle Vernon. A series of articles about Luc Girouard's background appeared in the Vernon News, shortly after its founding 1891. Mr. Girouard was alive and well at the time and presumably provided the detail. In part it states: "In 1860 Mr. Luc Girouard, together with a man named King, came into the Okanagan country by way of Colville..." (VN, October 1, 1891, page 5). This 1860 date might be used in future to better edit the flow of the history paragraph, which currently mixes decades when discussing the fur trade and Mr. Girouard. 24.68.80.249 (talk) 22:12, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Discovered
The article makes the spurious claim about who "discovered" the location. There is no recording of the people who traveled thru that area over the last 20,000 - 30,000 years. Who "discovered" the Sun? the Moon? The Atlantic Ocean? Any such claim is spurious (unless it can be established that no earlier visits occurred). I don't know what the basis is for the silly claim, but perhaps "first known use" (of that area) should be considered. Unless the "first use" coincided with the retreating ice, it's unlikely that it can be ascertained from any current or future physical evidence. 98.21.212.155 (talk) 23:29, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
