Need differentiation of UM College Park from University of Maryland, Baltimore, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and University of Maryland Global Campus. Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 01:02, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
And University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.Naraht (talk) 02:24, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I respectfully disagree. What would really need to be differentiated would be the College Park university and the system office. But that's not a problem; we already do it just fine in several other similar instances e.g., University of Tennessee and University of Tennessee system, Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University System. All we really need to figure out is if "University of Maryland" is more commonly used to refer to the university in College Park or the system. To do that, we need evidence.

Template:Redirect category shell What evidence is available that "University of Maryland" is more commonly used to refer to the university in College Park? ElKevbo (talk) 03:15, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Increasingly the school itself seems to use just "University of Maryland" (as opposed to when I went there briefly in the early 1990s and it used UMCP as an acronym). Absolutely nothing to back this up beyond my impression living down the road from the school, but after joining the Big Ten, the used of "College Park" dropped off significantly, led in part by sports reporting. That said, there is a case that "University of Maryland" may be too ambiguous for WP:COMMONNAME to apply. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 17:31, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
