Armed forces
Hi KittySamurai you've just reverted a couple of my edits when I substituted DOD for "United States Armed Forces." The thing is that the definition sentence, "The U.S. Army is the primary land-based service branch of the United States Armed Forces" needs to be well backed up in reliable sources. I cannot find anything in 10 USC that capitalizes or groups the "United States Armed Forces" together. Instead 10 USC 101 4 says [1] that "the term “armed forces” means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard." So they are not grouped together, they're individual, and they're lower case, not upper case. Can you cite something that says:
- 1 "The U.S. Army is the primary land-based service branch of the United States Armed Forces"
- because the sources would suggest "armed forces;"
and
- 2 in the infobox, that the Army is part of the "United States Armed Forces" because 10 USC 101 4 would suggest part of the "armed forces", and, that the Army is actually part of the military department, the Department of the Army, needs to be cited as well; it's my belief that it's more correct to say DA is part of the United States Army than the other way around. - This should be posted on a more central talk page, such as wt:milhist, or talk:US Armed Forces or talk:US DoD, etc., along with notifications on all pointing the page with the actual discussion, because whatever decisions are made wrt the lead and infobox of the Army, will also have an impact on the articles for Navy, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Dept of the Army, Dept of the Navy, Dept of Air Force, Dept of Homeland Security, Dept of Defense, US Armed Forces, and possibly other related articles. - Good point Wolf, well taken. I would like to engage this original editor here though, and this is where my issue started, so I am happy to take it to a more visible talkpage once I hear back & discussions move forward here. Buckshot06 (talk) 10:17, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Editing Plan
I will be working on the sub-section War of 1812 and Indian Wars, and will include what I will be working on below, should anyone have any comments on it. Should anyone have suggestions or comments, please feel free to do so here.
- Rewriting and adding citations to the first paragraph
- Creating a new title that will include the Mexican-American War
- Minor copyediting throughout the section
