loser-ish term

"and also a loser-ish kid" ?

I've lived all my life in Scotland, and never heard this term. Plus, it doesn't appear to be particularly relevant to the article about the band. Any objections to me removing it? -anon.

We Are Monkeys

I have the bitch in the Middle soundtrack, which has the track "We Are Monkeys." Am I correct in interpreting this song as a mockery of the theory of evolution from a theist's POV? "You're a fool to believe anymore, so believe you're a monkey… One day soon they're gonna end up in a monkey stew" (hell)… Any ideas? Garrett Albright 07:31, 9 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think it's more the POV that we all think to be better but we are only monkeys when you look closely. Kinda reminds me and others of The Beatles' "Obladi..."
On a side note: I can't see Travis defending a theist's POV. Just have a look at the lyrics of "Pipe Dreams", where it says "I'd pray to God if there was heaven (...)". They usually don't seem to be very eager to include theistic viewpoints into their songs. --SoWhy 13:47, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hello Garrett. This is Fran 20 years later!! We recorded this song in RAK Studios in St Johns Wood in London a very long time ago in a b Side session. The song is not a mockery of evolution. Far from it. It's simply light heartedly stating that we humans, as much as we would like to think of ourselves as these sophisticated beings set above and apart from nature are just apes 2.0. It's actually an embrace of Darwins theory.
Regarding Theism and my reticence to incliude any types of subject in a song, I have to say nothing is off the table. My songs are written mostly from the gut, and a little bit of the brain. All the lyrics come out whole with the melody and if, when I listen back to it, the statement holds true for me, then it stays. I believe singing is one of the oldest things humans/homosapiens/animals do. Evolution taught us early that making sounds was a very good way to survive. I see modern songs as incredibly sophisticated howling. At the heart of any decent song is tone, melody and rhythm. Lyrics should be draped over these and if the tone, melody and rhythm are strong, they will almost always draw some lyrics that drape over them perfectly giving their emotional shape more focus Han Frealy (talk) 20:30, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Non wiki text

If noone objects, I am going to change some of the article, especially the bands music style section. It reeks of dodgy music journo style writing, and it isnt suitable for wikipedia. Claims such as 'Travis music is very hard to pigeonhole' are also not true, as their music is very easy to pigeonhole in my opinion. As I said, I will leave it for a bit in case someone objects. Several things to say

Whatever information you like and know about the formation years of the band - please, we have reference sites and official ones that clarify this information better. And last, but not least, try not to put any kind of information that is plainly redundant or over-explanative. This isn't the right place for that kind of information. This is a Wikipedia article, not a fan page or user fan-vehicle.

Second, stop putting the Macca name at Nigel Godrich producing list. Nigel Godrich is a longtime associate of Beck, Travis and Radiohead. That's it. His other projects are offshots, which just doesn't deserve a fucking mention here.

And third, please, don't make me come again and fix the same shit you tend to make. Because I just plain hate it. I hate to come and fix the same mistakes again and again. I just plain hate it. So either reform or either stop working on this article.

Thank you for your time and regards: Painbearer 15:59, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Beautiful Occupation

"The Beautiful Occupation – a track about terrorist bombings in Spain, not the war in Iraq"

Is this true? I'm not certain that it isn't so I won't change it. However, if it is, perhaps it should be referenced and the song page should be changed as well since the other meaning is used there.
Ben467 20:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fran here. The Beautiful Occupation was written around 18 months before the US and UK mounted their war on Iraq. Before Bush was elected in 2001 and before 9/11 I had been dismayed to read "Project for the New American Century" which laid out a whole raft of agendas to project US military power upon the world. One of the key goals of PFANAC was regime change in Iraq. When Bush won the presidency in 2001, 10–12 key PNAC signatories took on prominent national security, defense, or foreign policy roles in the Bush administration. I started writing scraps here and there reflecting my feelings of impending doom. When 9/11 happened, it gave them a green light to carry out their project. The song was written when nobody was speaking about an attack on Iraq but it was clear, to me and anyone who had read PFANAC, what was about to happen. Broadly speaking, the song is about any big power invading a weaker nation and sadly is as relevant today as it was 24 years ago. Han Frealy (talk) 20:55, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Boy with no name

I clicked the link at the top of the page and created the article The Boy with no Name, without realising that it didn't have the right capitalisation, I can't move it - only joined today - can someone help out? Cheers Ljrmorgan 17:44, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Someone's fixed it - thanks Ljrmorgan 17:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Boy With No Name + Nigel Godrich

Gigwise says "Although the band produced the album themselves, they turned to long-term collaborator and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich for some advice." (http://www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=27454) Now what that probably means is that Nigel Godrich is responsible for some minor co-production. And I'm not sure if that warrants calling him the producer, or really even listing him as producer in the album page.  ??? Gamiar 21:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fran here. We recorded a lot of The Boy With No Name in Nigel's studio with Steve Orchard at The Hospital in London. Nigel was instrumental in the songs My Eyes, Closer and Sailing Away. Han Frealy (talk) 20:35, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Under the Moonlight writing credits

The page reads "According to Jools Holland, KT Tunstall co-wrote, sang in and played backing on the track "Under The Moonlight". And while Jools is correct that she sang and played backing on the track, the song was actually written by Susie Hug (solo performing singer/songwriter who founded the group the Katydids). Fran Healy helped to produce her album "A is for Album" and they liked her song "Under the Moonlight" so much they put it on "The Boy With No Name".

This is referenced on her myspace page ( http://www.myspace.com/susiehug ) as well as the songwriting credits attached to the song on the album.

Klaus? Wtf, is this true?

I highly doubt that there's a new member of the band named Klaus... is there anyone who can prove or disprove this strange rumour?

Cleas is just touring with the band; they need a pianist/keyboardist as none of them play piano. I think his name is spelt Cleas, not Klaus, although both are used in the article... Placid Carrot 13:10, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it's just conjecture (and OR), but I was at the Chicago show on 7/21/2007 and Claus's name was spelled as "Claus." They even had it in lights. Rstandefer 19:43, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for clearing that up, it was just the style of the way it was written w/ no last name included or any thing to prove it might be true that made me doubt it. But, I believe it now, so we're all set! Thanks

I can also confirm that, it was the same in Germany at Rock am Ring ;) --Eyesglare 21:44, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

His name is spelt Claes Björklund, but the band calls him "Claus". Should it be edited in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.215.130.51 (talk) 16:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Indie pop

Who here agrees that Travis can be considered indie pop? their music can compare to the likes of maritime, and is indie sounding but not edgy like rock its much more on the pop side. Selfish jean, battleships, why does it always rain on me, my eyes, new amsterdam, flowers in the window and so on fit into indie pop.

i also think it makes more sense for travis than soft rock does.

loveyourfaithLoveyourfaith (talk) 12:49, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

We cannot agree on anything, that would be original research. They are described as "alternative rock" and "britpop" in various reliable sources and that is our sole criterion. Thus I changed it back to these two terms. Regards SoWhy 13:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Son of Rambow?

I really can't recall seeing the band anywhere in Son of Rambow (although I wasn't watching closely for them, admittedly) and they are certainly not listed on imdb. Has someone got a source for this fact? Crgn (talk) 11:09, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Name Question

I have one question: Does the name of this band mean sth? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.253.95.118 (talkcontribs)

It's the name of the main character in the movie Paris, Texas. Regards SoWhy 11:12, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Please do not remove content when adding a response in future. Regards SoWhy 14:25, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This should be mentionned somewhere in the article, no? A legit reference is their bio at rhapsody.com, but I can't think of where to put it in the article. -M.Nelson (talk) 16:38, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Upcoming album/2009 tour

Travis have mentioned that their next album will be written on their North American tour 09/10, if anyone wants to add that. [1] Starks Hayter (talk) 21:44, 6 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

What happened to the Chris Martin quote

About Coldplay being a poor man's Travis. This was interesting. And it's gone now. What's the deal? Vranak (talk) 20:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I cannot remember seeing such a quote. If it existed, it was probably removed for being unsourced. If you remember the exact text, you could use WikiBlame to find when it was removed. Regards SoWhy 21:04, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah well it used to be here, and it's rather true to boot. No matter. Vranak (talk) 22:26, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Image replacement request (COI disclosure)

N.B. The Infobox Image has now been replaced with a Band Portrait.

Hi! I’m Harrietdeface on here. Oops I changed it today to Han Frealy. Harrietdeface was an old handle. I have a conflict of interest as I’m Fran Healy, the lead singer of Travis. I’ve posted the word “Wikilegit” on my personal Twitter account to confirm my identity.

I’d like to request the replacement of two images in the article with recent, freely licensed photographs I’ve uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Both images are properly licensed and reflect the band’s current activity.

I'd also like to add that the image in the Infobox includes our old session keyboard player Claes. While I love Claes, Travis is and always will be a 4 piece band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Han Frealy (talkcontribs) 21:04, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
