Add citation to the sentence "In Iran, "puzzle-locks" were made as early as the 17th century (CE). 2600:1700:523E:CC10:C60:C53A:D2:D9C0 (talk) 14:39, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add citation to the sentence "In Iran, 'puzzle-locks' were made as early as the 17th century (CE). The period after the sentence says citation needed. 2600:1700:523E:CC10:C60:C53A:D2:D9C0 (talk) 14:44, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

File:X mark.svg Not done, you need to actually provide the specific citations that you want to see added to these sentences, if you're making an edit request. The article is already templated as "needs additional citations for verification" and sentences like the one on Iranian puzzle-locks are marked as {{citation needed}}. We know that these citations are missing and that it would be good for the article to have some. --Belbury (talk) 14:53, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Lead image

Script error: No such module "Multiple image". User:AimanAbir18plus has restored the second image to the lead a couple of times now, but I'd say that the first established the article's context better, that a toy is a thing that a child plays with. It adds more of the Template:Tq that MOS:LEADIMAGE encourages us to give the reader. Belbury (talk) 12:56, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

This child image suits more in the "Child development" section. Toy is an object which is depicted in the lead section through the ancient horse toy. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 16:32, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Would you not agree that a picture that shows a child playing with a toy met more of the criteria of MOS:LEADIMAGE?
The wheeled horse from 900BC is less immediately obvious as a toy, compared to the picture of child playing with a small horse and carriage. There may be more modern photos on Commons, although copyright is difficult when toy designs are often copyrighted. Belbury (talk) 16:49, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
As I've mentioned earlier, that child image suits more in the "Child development" section. And many similar Wikipedia articles use historical image in the lead section instead of contemporary image (although that's not in every case). AimanAbir18plus (talk) 17:01, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
And the 900BC image would suit the "History > Antiquity" section.
I've since found a freely licenced photo of a 1955 wheeled toy motor scooter, which seems a better MOS:LEADIMAGE than either of these, so I'll put that up. Belbury (talk) 13:42, 29 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
