Tony Bennett’s support for Civil Rights

You might want to mention that Mr. Bennett took part in the third Civil Rights March from Selma to Montgomery AL on March 22, 1965 with Martin Luther King. He was invited by Harry Belafonte.

Dafamitory Remarks describing Mr. Bennett

Someone has added a horrific lead-in to this article which reads, "American Traitor Leftist SCUM. A Democrat Rapist." I found this on 21 July 2023. Please remove this horrid language! Dominy7 (talk) 23:35, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

I use Google news but I don't obsessively scan it. When I do, I obsessively scan Wikipedia to see if a notable-looking tidbit has made it into the 'pedia. I've gotten lucky a couple of times. Xan747 (talk) 03:24, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

On his WWII service

Although the cited source may claim it, his unit, 63rd Division, was not involved in the actual Battle of the Bulge: the German offensive in the Ardennes. Parts of it were involved in the related but distinct Operation Nordwind (German offensive in Alsace.)

The article doesn't say he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. It says he was in a unit that filled in for losses in that battle. And it quotes Bennett saying he was in that battle. The 63d seems to have been scattered all over Europe in January 1945, and the 255th Regiment was involved in the Rhineland Campaign, of which I believe the Battle of the Bulge was a part.

In particular, our article on the 63rd Infantry Division (United States) says that the 255th was attached to the 100th Infantry Division (United States), and that the 100th was south of Bitche at the time of the battle. Which is certainly close enough that they could have been involved in the fighting.

It seems unlikely Bennett would lie about this, especially since his remarks were part of an apology for something else he said. He could have been misquoted, or he could have been confused (he did suffer from Alzheimers but that was much later). Do you have a source that says none of the units of the 63d were involved in the battle? GA-RT-22 (talk) 19:22, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Why does his death appear "in the news" on homepage when Olivia Newton John didn't?

Olivia Newton John's death last year didn't appear on the main page of Wikipedia in the "in the news" section. So why does Tony Bennett get to be "in the news" ? MisterZed (talk) 12:12, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

"Honors and Awards" section - formatting error?

I could be wrong, but it looks like there's something wrong with the "Honors and Awards" table near the end of Tony Bennett's article. It looks like one of the rows (I think the one for his 1974 honorary PhD from Berkeley College of Music) has been placed horizontally to another row. I tried to fix it myself, and it looked OK at first – but I actually ended up making the problem worse (which was only visible to me after I published the edit, not in the preview, weirdly enough) and I have no idea what I did wrong or how I could rectify it aside from just reverting my own edit. I reverted and left it as is, but I was hoping a more experienced editor could fix it up properly. Afddiary (talk) 18:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
