An interpretation
The third paragraph from the end under "Interpretations" begins, "Volker Drüke (2013) believes that the crucial metamorphosis in the story is that of Grete. She is the character the title is directed at." I cannot believe that Volker Drüke could have written that, because it is ridiculous. The title of "The Metamorphosis" unquestionably refers to Gregor's metamorphosis into a bug. It might also, secondarily, refer to Grete, but it can't be right to say that she is (without qualification such as "may be") the (implying the only) character the title is directed at. The problem is that the source is in German, which I do not read. I hope that someone who can read the source will correct this. Maurice Magnus (talk) 23:34, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
I edited it to say that Grete's metamorphosis is "a", not "the", crucial metamorphosis, and that she is one character the title is directed at. If anyone checks the source and finds that it really says what had been attributed to Volker Drüke, then revert my edit, except for the style improvements I made.
