Blowin' In The Wind, Traditional?

If in case the melody of "Blowin' In The Wind" is based on "No More Auction Block", shouldn't the written-by-section say "Traditional, Bob Dylan" instead of just mentioning Bob Dylan? Best regards, --31.19.210.181 (talk) 09:38, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

It isn't just "Blowin' in the Wind". You can go through this album song by song and discover that nearly every song derives its music or much of its lyric or both from a pre-existing song, and "Blowin' in the Wind" is far from the most flagrant example. The article's songwriting credits reflect the album's credits, it would seem, and Zimmerman throughout his career (as well as long before his career began) was an habitual plagiarist. Just because the album cites "Dylan" as sole author, however, it doesn't seem to me that the Wikipedia article should have to also, which is to say that I agree with you. Outtakes

Is The Freewheelin' Outtakes album an official release? It should be stated if it isn't. Spacecrunchies (talk) 07:07, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I can't find any evidence that it even exists! Nor "Resurfaced Records". What is the source for this? Unlike the other releases, data is vague on takes used, as well. This should be sourced or deleted. Sojambi Pinola (talk) 15:14, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Those references were all added in this anonymous edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Freewheelin%27_Bob_Dylan&oldid=996651225
There is no sourcing for them.
I did find a grey market label called "Resurfaced Records", which seems to put out public domain material on various hi res download sites. I can find no Dylan release, so it was probably pulled. There are plenty of other "Freewheelin' outtakes" releases on European public domain labels even prior to 2018. I'm not sure why this one was singled out. It should be revised or removed. Re identity of the Girl from the North Country

Who was she? No one knows. Some people say Echo Helstrom, some people say Bonnie Beecher, some people sat Suze Rotolo. Could be any of them. Maybe someone else, who knows?

Could she also be no particular person, maybe an amalgam of more than one girl, or maybe just a fictional person made up for the purposes of the song. Is that possible? I'd say so. So, to the passage

I ppended the following sentence:

Template:Talkquote

Just to point out that we don't mean to imply that the Girl must be based on one of these three, which it kind of does at present.

Note that I wrote "may" there, not "is".

I put that in on grounds that it's true on its face. I just can't accept that it is impossible, literally a violation of the laws of physics or whatever, for the Girl to not be based on one particular person. Can you? Willing to be educated on this. Til then, I'm going to assume that it is not impossible, or even vanishingly unlikely, that Bob didn't have one particular person in mind. (He's said, written, or implied nothing solidly would indicate any solution.)

On this basis I did not provide a ref. I also didn't didn't provide a ref that Bob Dylan is indeed a human being and not a lobster, that is he is indeed a musician rather the the third basemen for the Toronto Blue Jays, and so forth. There is an essay, Wikipedia:You don't need to cite that the sky is blue, just an essay, that makes the same point altho it goes on and on and and overthinks it. But I don't need an essay.

Anyway, User:Tkbrett rolled back the edit as being WP:OR which is xir perfect right, and maybe xe's right, who knows. So, per WP:BRD the next to step is for me to make my case, which I have done here, and any insight or counter point from Tkbrett or anyone else is of course welcome. Dylan is among the most written about songwriters of all time; we do not need to resort to original research, especially on a Featured Article. Tkbrett (✉) 04:47, 29 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK OK fine I added a ref since you insist. Herostratus (talk) 23:20, 1 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
