Candix bankruptcy
I've removed the claim that the success of "Surfin'" bankrupted Candix as they released nine more singles after it, finally closing their doors late summer 1962. Andrew G. Doe (talk) 19:14, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Brian and Al as current members
Brian and Al haven’t toured with the band for over 26 years (except during the one-off reunion), so I think it’s fair to say that Brian and Al are still shareholders of B.R.I. but aren’t members of the band anymore. It happens in a lot of bands where members aren’t physically in the band but remain as owners of the band. And Brian and Al were fired in 2012 by Mike. I would like to see some opinions about this topic. SamuelDJ12 (talk) 09:14, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- This has already been settled ages ago. Brian and Al are still considered members of the band through their ownership of BRI. While I agree they were "fired" by Mike, they weren't kicked out of BRI since that would be impossible. There are also occasional non-performing reunions with Brian and Al (and sometimes David Marks and Blondie Chaplin). Recently, an unregistered reverted previous consensus unilaterally, and now you have followed. I would encourage you to revert your changes, and I assume some others would too. Thanks. - I've gone ahead and made an edit which I believe is a fair compromise: maintaining Wilson and Jardine as members, because they are, and linking to the touring configurations. We can see a similar example in the infobox for Jefferson Starship. The touring article is appropriate when referring to Love's version of the group which legally calls themselves "The Beach Boys" nowadays, just as other acts have distinct touring groups. Any new Beach Boys album work would undeniably include both Wilson and Jardine by way of BRI, such as in 2012. Maybe we should really be discussing Paul McCartney's official status as a member of the Beach Boys - he did chomp a mean celery, after all. Newsjunkiect (talk) 23:30, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

- From my point of view, justifying Jardine being a current member requires a LOT of reaching. BRI shares are not equivalent to band membership, and I don't know where that correlation is being pulled from. He became a shareholder in 1973, when he was still in the band. Does that mean the estate of Carl Wilson is also a member? He hasn't played with the official Beach Boys in any form since 2012. Listing him as a current member gives any reader who isn't already familiar with the band's lineup the incorrect information about who plays with the Beach Boys. There was also only one source given that listed Jardine and Brian as members, which is extremely likely in my opinion to have just copied the information from this page, leading to circular reporting (again, see WP:CITOGENESIS).
- The above comments made to justify retaining Brian and Jardine in current members were only grounded on speculation about which members would be on a possible future album (see WP:CRYSTAL) and the afformationed questionable sources—one of which is from 2012 and so isn't as reliable now 12 years on.
- Also, why is Jardine a member but not Marks, who was also removed from the band at the same time? Miklogfeather (talk) 22:59, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

Pendleton
Pendleton is not a style of shirt but a brand. Pendleton Woollen Mill from Pendleton Oregon still make a Board Shirt. 2600:6C55:6300:E8:86AA:73B1:1826:DF46 (talk) 14:45, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
Changing the head image
Alright, Brian's now dead. Given this inevitable yet still somber tragedy, it's a signal the Beach Boys as a group no longer has any recent substance. With that, it makes sense users are trying out head image changes for the first time in maybe(?) 12 1/2 years. The 2012 reunion photo is now inappropriate IMO...no Brian, no real relevance for present band photos.
Now here's the part where I get ahead. There are a whopping 19 photos of portraits of the band, and we should establish a consensus on which photo best represents the Beach Boys. For starters, let's not choose one with David Marks since he isn't a founding member. We also have one/two photos with Bruce Johnston, who's considered the definitive sixth member. (I uploaded a HQ version for the latter, but it was a bold edit and the copyright there isn't checked by someone else. I'd be grateful if someone could look that one over.) There's so many great images with Al Jardine, but is there something established so the images won't get changed constantly? I hope this can be dealt with quickly. Carlinal (talk) 04:48, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- My vote is for the 1967 or 1971 photos, preferably 1967 since Brian is in the center of that image. I'm against any photo from before the mid-1960s, if only because it's sort of like using a photo of the Beatles with those weird rounded-collar suits for their article. I understand that the striped-shirt outfits are iconic in their own right, but there's something "off" about selecting any of those earlier teen pop photos to represent a band responsible for albums like Friends and Holland. It would be one thing if, like the Beatles, the Beach Boys had broken up in the '60s, but the boys were releasing albums consistently through the '90s. ili (talk) 15:36, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, and I think even photos from 1964 might be too early for them. I could ask for 1965 for the earliest, although the dating on some of these image files are ambiguous. If not the '67 (B) or '71 (G) photos, it looks like the 1965 photo (C) could do. It presents the founders pretty equally without the candy stripe silliness, and Brian is at the center as well. Plus it's our cleanest image file of their early years IMO. Carlinal (talk) 16:00, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- I like the 1967 (B) photo best. To me, it comes off the most genuine and down to earth when compared to the other options. They're not the clean cut fellas depicted in A, but they're not the rock and rollers in G. They're just being The Beach Boys, if you get what I mean by that. I also just like the general composition, and the fact that it's in color. My second choice would be the 1965 (C) photo. Scratchu90 (talk) 02:43, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- My vote is for the 1971 (G) photo, with the 1967 (B) photo as my second preference. It’s a good shot of the core classic line-up of the Wilsons, Love, Jardine and Johnston, and the musical output the band was releasing during this period remains among the most well-regarded and revered by fans and critics alike to this day (as part of their great run of albums from Pet Sounds to Holland). Rest easy, Brian (on a side note I absolutely object to the current infobox photo for Brian Wilson, taken during the period where he was under the abusive control of Eugene Landy). TheScrubby (talk) 03:01, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- In my opinion, if B (1967) is good enough for the infobox photo, so is A (1964). A is much cleaner and doesn't feature the strained or awkward expressions of B, nor is it overexposed like B. A is representative enough to be featured front and centre on the main page of the Beach Boys website, and I'm not sure if the semi-shirtless attire of B is preferable from the striped shirts. A also meets my expectations for what the lead image would look like more than B. I would also prefer C, F or G over B. Miklogfeather (talk) 00:22, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- The purpose of the lead image is to "allow readers to quickly assess if they have arrived at the right page". See WP:LEAD. A and C most strongly say to me "these are the Beach Boys". GA-RT-22 (talk) 21:07, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- I think either A or C is best. They are a nice depiction of the band and showcase them at the height of their commercial popularity. Ollieisanerd (talk • contribs) 21:32, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
