mis-information

Untitled

Most of the Teton Range is NOT in GTNP. Only the east slope of the northern part. Much of it is in the Targhee National Forest.

Most of the Teton Range is NOT made up of granite. Most of the supposed "granite" is really metamorphic rock. The west slope and much of the northern part are made up of sedimentary rocks. Much of this is carbonate rock, either limestone or dolomite. Taking the range as a whole, including the west slope, it is likely that more of the exposed rock is limestone than anything else. Nobody argued with this for three years so I edited the article. Senor Cuete (talk) 16:28, 8 October 2012 (UTC)Senor CueteReply

Filming locations

They also filmed Any Which Way But Loose with Count Eastwood in Jackson Hole. Trust me... I was there for it and watched them film a fight scene in Jackson. Many of the buildings are recognizable, as is the landscape. 2600:100A:B1C9:DB35:78D7:93BE:4A06:DB80 (talk) 20:14, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Teton Range (as featured on Kanye West’s Ye album)

The Teton Range is a prominent mountain range of the Rocky Mountains located primarily in northwestern Wyoming, United States. The range extends approximately 40 miles (64 km) in a north–south orientation and is bordered to the east by the Jackson Hole valley and to the west by the Teton Valley in Idaho. The mountains are situated within Grand Teton National Park, which encompasses much of the range and is a protected area managed by the U.S. National Park Service.

The highest peak in the range is Grand Teton, which stands at 13,775 feet (4,199 meters) above sea level, making it the second-highest peak in Wyoming after Gannett Peak. Other notable peaks in the range include Mount Owen, Middle Teton, South Teton, Teewinot Mountain, and Mount Moran.

Geologically, the Teton Range is one of the youngest ranges in the Rocky Mountains, formed around 6 to 9 million years ago due to tectonic activity involving the Teton fault, a normal fault that caused the mountains to rise while the valley of Jackson Hole subsided. Despite their relatively young geological age, the rocks that make up the range—mostly Precambrian metamorphic rocks—are among the oldest in North America, estimated to be over 2.5 billion years old.

Climatically, the region experiences alpine weather patterns, with long, cold winters and short, mild summers. Snow can persist on the higher peaks year-round. The range supports a wide array of flora and fauna, including grizzly bears, black bears, elk, moose, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep, along with diverse alpine vegetation and forest ecosystems.

In popular culture, the Teton Range gained renewed recognition when it was featured on the cover of Kanye West’s 2018 album Ye. The cover photo—taken by West himself using an iPhone on May 31, 2018, reportedly while en route to the album’s listening party—includes the handwritten phrase “I hate being bipolar it’s awesome” superimposed over the mountains at sunset. The exact location of the photo is believed to be along U.S. Highway 191, near Schwabacher’s Landing, a well-known viewpoint northeast of the town of Jackson, Wyoming.

The Teton Range remains a symbol of natural beauty, rugged isolation, and American wilderness culture, frequently visited by mountaineers, hikers, wildlife photographers, and fans of Kanye West’s discography alike. (not actually) KanYE west (talk) 16:08, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
