Jfdwolff writes "how can the FDA approve a drug in 2002 that was introduced in 1955? the preparation synthyroid is of more recent date"

Synthroid has been used by doctors without FDA approval for decades because of the extensive marketing campaign and political pressure by the pharmacical companies to make this the standard treatment protocol. There have been many quality issues that FDA had with Synthroid hence no approval until recently. I thought that by stating that Abbott Labs themselves were the source for the 1955 introduction that you would look for yourself, Jfdwolff. Here is the source link: Abbott News Release (past the middle part of the release)

For more insight to FDA's reasons for non-approval prior to 2002 see: www.mercola.com/2001/jun/9/synthroid.htm Template:Unreliable fringe source Synthroid Problems] There are other Synthroid/Armour/hypothyroid articles at the site.

Instead of repeatedly slapping the same confusing information into the article, why couldn't you provide these links earlier? Of course you are right, but it is completely counter-intuitive to state that a drug approved in 2002 was introduced in 1955 unless you explain why. Yes, I did search for the information, but my time is not endless. Could you edit the article to reflect this? Thank you. JFW | T@lk 30 June 2005 15:22 (UTC)
