This article should most definitely not be merged with the HS2000 article, as they are separate and somewhat distinct guns. If anything, the HS200 article should be combined into a new "Springfield XD" article. Jgw 15:34, 9 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

This article should have its contents merged into Springfield_Armory_XD, as the XD-9 moniker refers specifically to the 9mm models.

I agree. All the Springfield XD pistols are the same except for their different calibers. In, fact all one needs to do to convert their pistol to different calibers is to buy a barrel in the new caliber and drop it into the firearm. This only works when going down in caliber, i.e. you can change a .40S&W XD into a .357Sig or 9mm XD but you can not convert the 9mm version. The magazines for the .40 S&W are the same as the ones for a .357Sig but for the 9mm conversion you would need to buy the 9mm magazines. However, all magazines will fit into any XD regardless of its original caliber showing that the lower grip and mechanism are identical between the calibers. I do not know if all the foregoing information applies to the new XD in .45GAP and I have only heard that it can not be converted at all. I can not speak about the HS2000 vs. XD issue as I know little of the differences between them if they exist but only wish this post to address the need to have the Springfield XD be a songle article with mention of the different calibers rather than have separate articles for each caliber.

I concur that this article should be merged with Springfield_Armory_XD. This particular article contains nothing that is not already covered by the more broad XD article. It should NOT be merged with the HS2000 article, as even though the civilian XD is based on the military HS2000, they are unique models that deserve separate references. Military or police weapons which are not available to the general public should be listed separately to avoid confusion regarding magazine capacity, modes of fire, or other features not available to the public at large.
