What's "West Indian" stand for?
Hi User:SchroCat, I'm translating this article to Chinese, just want to make sure:
Section "Backgroud", "...led to a rise in militancy, particularly among the West Indian community." This "West Indian community" means they're many communities in London that mainly occupied by people from Western India, or West Indies, or they're communities named "West Indian" and have many blacks live here back to 1970s; perhaps just people still lived in Western India, or West Indies were upset for what's happen in the Great Britain?--Jarodalien (talk) 00:55, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
Also the same section, within the statement, what's "ESN schools" stand for?--Jarodalien (talk) 01:15, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jarodalien, West Indian refers to the West Indies. ESN stands for “Educationally Sub Normal” - a term no longer used in the UK. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 06:05, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you SchroCat for your help, translation just done here.--Jarodalien (talk) 12:24, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
Identify that for say
Is identify or identify that for say really British English? It's unknown to me, despite being a native Briton. It's also unknown to Wiktionary, and as of 1993, to the OED (though that doesn't have (self-) identify as either, so it may be out of date).

- It looks to be fairly common in scholarly writing. Nikkimaria (talk) 22:03, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Spaghetti House
Hi Modest Genius, I'm sorry to say that the source does not support what has been included. Although there are some locations mentioned, not all of them are, nor does the page clarify that all the branches were in the West End in the mid 1970s. The point is slightly moot, however, as I'm not sure what the additional wording actually provides for readers. It gives mostly the same information as was in the previous version (except the questionable 'West End' claim). Why do we need all the additional wording?Template:Pbps. You got the Sfn usage spot on, so thanks for the effort involved on that. - SchroCat (talk) 12:07, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
I gave this a Main Page date at WP:TFAP for the 50th anniversary ... just a suggestion, feel free to revert. - Dank (push to talk) 20:19, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
