Delaware
Why is Delaware considered part of the South? it is not 76.202.60.124 (talk) 14:43, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- Because it's south of the Mason-Dixon line, and was a slave state until after the Civil War, as with Maryland. What makes you think it's not part of the South? BilCat (talk) 22:05, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Missouri
why isn't Missouri mentioned in the map? It was a slave state which just didn't join the confederates Nohorizonss (talk) 14:38, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Who keeps changing what the SOUTH is?
Texas, Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky and Delaware ARE NOT the SOUTH! Where are people getting this from? The Mason-Dixon line is irrelevant. Texas was a confederate state - but not the south. Texas is in the SouthWEST grouped in with states from Texas to California, which is why those states were in western movies - not states in the real south!
Maryland - which is near and around D.C. - are not the south, they are in the northeast! Delaware is next to NJ, so how can that be the south? Kentucky and West Virginia are not the south, which is why you have a WEST Virginia to begin with! As a woman from Virginia once told me, the SOUTH to them are the states that were rebel states, or in the confederacy. Yeah, I know that includes Texas, but Texas is not the south, certainly not culturally.
We have to stop the madness and get things right on this site! Just like PA is not on the east coast or in a Mid-Atlantic - because it is not on the Atlantic, these states are not in the south! Truthwriter4real (talk) 04:22, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- There are many definitions for what states make up the South. This article primarily uses the region as defined by the United States Census Bureau. While you're welcome to disagree, you're not welcome to change the article without reaching a consensus here on the talk page first. BilCat (talk) 06:01, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- There are not many definitions on what the south is. The primary definition has always been the Confederate states - or 'the south.' Even on this site's own article Mason–Dixon line , it says nothing about the south being south of Delaware. As someone who lives in the NYC area, I have driven to DE, MD, DC and VA PLENTY of times, and I knew that I was always in the Northeast, until I got to VA. Once a little deep into VA, that is where you hear southern accents. No one has even classified Washington D.C. as 'the south.' In fact, D.C. is located where it is in order to watch over the south. Missouri
If Kentucky is consider south Missouri should be too. Being both border slave state and was accepted in CSA at the same time a both have star on her flag. West Virginia shouldn’t be they succeeded from the south 2600:1702:6061:4350:2D99:7DEE:6A5F:EA43 (talk) 18:02, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

- What do the Confederate States of America have to do with the regions of the United States Census Bureau or with the slave states? The CSA never actually included any of the slave-holding border states and it is irrelevant to current definitions of the Southern United States. Dimadick (talk) 05:15, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
