South Vietnam is NOT a country
No, South Vietnam was not and is not a country. It was a separate state, officially called the Republic of Vietnam, from 1955 to 1975. After the Vietnam War, it was unified with North Vietnam in 1976 to form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which is the single country of Vietnam today. VT1101 (talk) 02:00, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
Geneva accord 1954 does not say South Vietnam was a country
According to Geneva accord 1954, Vietnam was temporarily divided into 2 regions and supposed to be united by a general election in 1956. VT1101 (talk) 02:10, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

- Please check some key points of Geneva Accord 1954:
- 6. The Conference recognizes that the essential purpose of the agreement relating to Viet-Nam is to settle military questions with a view to ending hostilities and that the military demarcation line is provisional and should not in any way be interpreted as constituting a political or territorial boundary. The Conference expresses its conviction that the execution of the provisions set out in the present declaration and in the agreement on the cessation of hostilities creates the necessary basis for the achievement in the near future of a political settlement in Viet-Nam.
- 7. The Conference declares that, so far as Viet-Nam is concerned, the settlement of political problems, effected on the basis of respect for the principles of independence, unity, and territorial integrity, shall permit the Vietnamese people to enjoy the fundamental freedoms, guaranteed by democratic institutions established as a result of free general elections by secret ballot.
- In order to insure that sufficient progress in the restoration of peace has been made, and that all the necessary conditions obtain for free expression of the national will, general elections shall be held in July 1956, under the supervision of an international commission composed of representatives of the member states of the International Supervisory Commission referred to in the agreement on the cessation of hostilities. Consultations will be held on this subject between the competent representative authorities of the two zones from April 20, 1955, onwards. 2600:1700:23C1:82C0:E075:B1D6:7DA6:5AD0 (talk) 02:40, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- The Geneva Accords created two temporary states with the end goal of them reuniting (peacefully) in 1956, however when the Viet Cong rose to power in the North, it led to the outbreak of the Vietnam War in 1955. Aydoh8[what have I done now?] 02:45, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

- Ngô Đình Diệm effectively prevented a nationwide reunification election planned for 1956. The Geneva Accords of 1954, which ended the First Indochina War, called for a general election by July 1956 to unify Vietnam under one government. However, Diệm, with support from the United States, refused to participate in or allow this election in South Vietnam. 2600:1700:23C1:82C0:E075:B1D6:7DA6:5AD0 (talk) 02:48, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- But anyway, according to Geneva accord 1954, South Vietnam is a region, temporarily divided from North Vietnam. South Vietnam was never a country 2600:1700:23C1:82C0:E075:B1D6:7DA6:5AD0 (talk) 02:49, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- South Vietnam was a country, not Template:Tq (neither North nor South was the legal successor state of French Indochina). None of the sources you've mentioned support what you're saying, this is civil POV pushing and borderline disruptive. Aydoh8[what have I done now?] 02:52, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- What are the reliable sources that say Template:Tq? 2600:1700:23C1:82C0:E075:B1D6:7DA6:5AD0 (talk) 05:23, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
