Panther vs. Tiger

We should be as accurate as possible in selecting the English terms used to translate the original Georgian title. If the best translation is "Knight in the Tiger's Skin" we should use it throughout and note somewhere that the use of "panther" is not entirely accurate. Can someone with a thorough knowledge of Georgian of the period when the work was written offer their opinion on the best English translation of the title? Also, are two separate terms used for "panther" and "tiger" in Medieval Georgian, or is one term used for all big cats? --Picatrix (talk) 07:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was most likely a Persian Leopard. The story is an adaptation of a middle-eastern legend, and it is most likely that this was the original animal. It is not, of course, neither panther nor tiger, which were unheard of in Georgia and would have confused Georgian readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.239.254.73 (talk) 08:44, 30 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
