Donald Trump Sega Launch party date.

Does anyone know from the news footage with Donald Trump at the Launch party what day that happened? Seems to be the 14th but user:Indrian removed it even though there is news footage of the event. Not sure which date though 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:89AE:C51E:D15:B6ED (talk) 02:39, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Surely if it were that notable a thing it would be in some kind of post-coverage reliable source? WP:NOTNEWS applies if it’s just one brief mention in news footage. Red Phoenix talk 11:27, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
It was 1989, Sega wasn't huge back then. Unlike other fourth generation consoles there is an actual video of the launch (The August 23 1991 date for the SNES, August 29, 1989 date for the TurboGrafx 16, and the July 1, 1991 date for the neo geo) have no first day release videos, the issue is finding out when that was shown. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:BDF9:FEFD:FC1B:5D7C (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unless it has some sort of documented impact (helping/hurting the platform's launch or sales), its probably not worth noting. Sergecross73 msg me 13:05, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well technically we dont know the official dates for any of the fourth gen, but the video would help confirm what day in August 1989 it was released. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:BDF9:FEFD:FC1B:5D7C (talk) 16:13, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Where is this video available? If it's just a Youtube upload by a random person, it'll fall afoul of WP:YOUTUBE and WP:RSPYT... Sergecross73 msg me 16:18, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I mean it's something that actually happened it isn't AI generated. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:BDF9:FEFD:FC1B:5D7C (talk) 16:21, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nobody mentioned AI. ApLundell (talk) 21:59, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's not the problem. The problem would be outlined at WP:RSPYT, and that we still don't really have any indication of any real significance anyways. It's not like a routine news report alone, from decades ago, should be an authority on anything in particular... Sergecross73 msg me 13:06, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure what nonsense this anon is going on about, but nobody deleted any references to an August 14 launch party, least of all me. The article claimed the system officially launched on August 14, 1989, in New York and Los Angeles, which comes from Ultimate History of Video Games. That book says nothing about a launch party at all on that date or any other and neither did this article. I removed that erroneous launch date because better sources from the time show it is inaccurate. There is footage on YouTube of a Genesis launch party with Mr. Trump in attendance, but that news report does not date the event. It really does not matter when the event took place, however, as that is not the launch date for the system any more than the star-studded premier of a movie is considered its theatrical release date. Indrian (talk) 02:56, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's not nonsense why are you cherry picking release dates? Why not remove it for the Turbografx Neo Geo and even the Super Nintendo. if you have a switch with an expansion and look through the SNES chronological order at the bottom you will see SNES 08/19/1991 not August 23rd. Everything could be wrong at this point. anyways just wanted to put in my two cents. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:BDF9:FEFD:FC1B:5D7C (talk) 07:05, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is not a valid line reasoning on Wikipedia. Just because someone acts on something in one place does not obligate them to address it elsewhere/everywhere. A better approach would be some self-reflection - you have not garnered any support from the first 4 responses, all from experienced editors. It could be a sign that you're not in the right track here... Sergecross73 msg me 11:55, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Respectfully, what would it even matter if Mr. Trump were at the launch party? Even if contemporary news sources of the time have little coverage, there’s so much retrospective coverage of Sega that if it actually mattered, we’d find it there. Red Phoenix talk 17:07, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Launch parties are not even necessarily on the day of the actual launch. Especially pre-internet. So even if you could prove the party happened on a certain day, you'd still need to source that the launch and the launch party happened on the same day. As silly as that sounds.
I like the way the current phrasing acknowledges the fact that back then retailers didn't care about embargo dates and official launch dates. When the toys showed up, they put them on the shelves. ApLundell (talk) 18:16, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

About the console still being on TecToy's website

Hi @Popcornfud, sorry, but I noticed you were the one who removed the mention about the console not being on TecToy's website anymore with the reason listed being "Literally the first thing you see on the website"; could you provide evidence of that? TecToy updates their website continuously, and unfortunately I couldn't find an archive of it on Jan 17, 2024, the day of the edit, but I did find archives of it on the Wayback Machine on Jan 8th and March 22nd, and as far as I can see the Genesis isn't the first thing you see on them.

Are you perhaps thinking about the console showing up on the first video on the website? That one has been there since December 2021, when they were definitely selling the console and it was showing up on their "Consoles" page. However by 2023, the page wasn't showing the Genesis anymore and still does not (now renamed "Electronics"). Gmestanley (talk) 20:49, 18 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think you have the wrong editor. See [1]. Popcornfud (talk) 22:23, 18 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah thanks, sorry for that. Didn't notice that.
@Sontails1234 Hi, please see above. Gmestanley (talk) 19:41, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gmestanley at the time, the master system evolution was featured in their banner. Presently it seems like it is not, but it is still further down their website's main page and it looks like you can still order one. Sorry for the abrasiveness awhile ago, I do not think I was in a good mood that day and I am not usually like that. Sontails1234 (talk) 19:56, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
The article isn't about the Master System though... it's about the Genesis. Gmestanley (talk) 15:46, 21 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Change name to Sega Mega Drive?

The Sega Mega Drive is a Japanese console and its Japanese name (and everywhere else in the world apart from North America) is the Sega Mega Drive, so surely the article should be named Sega Mega Drive and not Sega Genesis? 146.198.56.22 (talk) 14:36, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
