Banking example
In the banking program section, the part "and that deposits or purchases are sane in fitting in with patterns established by historical data" is not a sanity check. This is a reflection of what the banking program might consider likely or expected behavior, but not impossible. A sanity check determines if a result is simply not possible, it does not have any bearing on an entirely possible, however unlikely, result.--Chilipepper987 (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Sanity testing → Sanity check – I checked sources after finding this article while looking something up. The WP:COMMONNAME for the topic is "sanity check," which is better represented (by far) in sources, and the current title could refer to legal determinations of insanity rather than to checking mathematical calculations, which is the topic of the article. - Please explain. Right now the other term is used as a redirect for the current article title, suggesting that the topic associated with either term is one and the same. Could you please point me to sources that use one term or the other for one meaning or the other? I'm pretty sure "sanity check" is by far the more familiar term than "sanity testing" because it is the term I have encountered in my own reading about checking mathematics steps (the topic of the current article) and it is much more represented in published books.
