This just didn't sound correct:
"Brannan went to the mill and he recieved the tithes of the LDS workers there from the gold they had found in their spare time."
So I added the "as a representative of the LDS Church". I don't know if this is correct, but it is not likely that LDS would have been giving Brannan "tithes" (if that is indeed what he was recieving instead of perhaps payment for goods and services) unless he was acting as an agent for the LDS Church. - As I understand it, Brannan was the bishop in San Francisco, and the highest member of the church in California at the time. Not too sure, as I'm a Catholic myself, so I don't know all about the internal workings of the LDS church. Gentgeen
I'm double checking, but I believe he was the presiding church authority, not a Bishop. -Visorstuff 17:02, 19 Dec 2003 (UTC)
A bishop, especially in that time was the presiding church authority and also the one who would receive tithes from members- sgthone12b 11:14 MST 18 Nov 2006
Merge suggestion
I would concur. WBardwin 18:02, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Agreement. VikÞor | Talk 13:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Same person, so merge would be correct. sgthone12b 11:14 MST 18 Nov 2006
- With three as concensus, completed merge -- seems rough yet to me, so feel free to edit. WBardwin 04:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Magnate discussion
Reading this article, Brannan operated and owned more than one store. In addition to acquiring and selling real estate, he became wealthy only to become penniless after settling his debts. Ronbo76 05:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- A dozen would still be too few. He was no magnate. Sam Walton, J.C. Penney, Frank Woolworth and such were magnates. As a retailer, Brannan was insignificant. On the other hand, padding his resume is exctly the sort of thing he'd have done, so I won't revert your reversion. Whyaduck 06:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- He was a maganate in his time and this article has sources and external links that back it. Ronbo76 06:03, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I wonder
How come that the Brannon River was named after Samuel Brannan? Avihu (talk) 07:57, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
