Novel in S2 is the idea of providing documentation for a class, method, function or property directly within the source code, separate (machine-distinguishable) from conventional comments. Small strings of explanatory text can be added after the header of a class, method, function or property, and they can be used to generate documentation.

Not Unique to LiveJournal

"The S2 system is, at its heart, completely general and can be used for almost any web application; however there exists no documentation for the implementation of S2 within other applications, which ties it relatively closely to LiveJournal."

This statement is not entirely true, though I haven't thought of a good way to rephrase it. LiveJournal is a service and an application; S2 is used by another Danga project/product called FotoBilder. The LiveJournal site has its own FotoBilder running called 'ScrapBook', but FotoBilder itself is actually separate from and independent of the LiveJournal app. S2-for-FotoBilder also runs on the not-yet-launched PicPix site. PicPix is/was meant to be the independent counterpart to ScrapBook. At any rate, it's not implemented solely within LiveJournal, but obviously I have difficulty succinctly describing its relationship to FotoBilder. :) --Melissa Della 18:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Does this topic meet the notability guideline?

This article seems to describe a component of the software behind LiveJournal. It seems to be of little interest outside of the context of LiveJournal (and some other products developed alongside LiveJournal), and has no secondary sources.

At best it seems like this should be a part of the LiveJournal page, though even then not clear that it's any more notable than any other software component of LiveJournal, since it's more an implementation detail of the theme system than something LiveJournal is renowned for. This wikipedia article seems to be the only significant mention of this language on the Internet, as far as I can tell from some web searches. 75.164.38.213 (talk) 05:06, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

This article has no sources, and I can't find anything about this outside of LiveJournal itself. Indeed, the very claim in the article:

"The S2 system is, at its heart, completely general and can be used for almost any web application; however there exists no documentation for the implementation of S2 within other applications, which ties it relatively closely to LiveJournal."
