Mobile phone default

Ponomariov's "mobile phone default" was on his 20th birthday. I have heard that the one calling him up did so in order to congratulate him. Is the part about the caller being a wellwisher true? Sjakkalle 09:43, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Importance to Wiki chess project

As a former World Chess Champion a top importance would seem appropriate. ChessCreator (talk) 20:51, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I understand the point, but he was only World Chess Champion through the dubious FIDE knockout system, so in my opinion he is much less important than, for example, Kasparov or Fischer or Capablanca. Hence I would rather set his importance as High. SyG (talk) 11:04, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Computer Chess

As far as I am aware, Ponomariov became the last human player to beat a top chess computer in tournament conditions, when he beat Fritz on 21/11/2005, and that he holds the record to this day. Has anyone got a source for this claim? I think it is notable enough to be added to his article.

The Human–computer_chess_matches article makes this claim, but cites an XKCD comic rather than a reliable source.  J.Gowers  09:41, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
