There is a Goclenius (crater) on the Moon named after a Rudolf Gockel, German physicist, doctor, mathematician (1572-1621). (See the USGS Astrogeology page for reference.) However that age range differs from that listed on this page. Either there were two famous Germans with this name alive in approximately the same time frame, or one of the two date ranges is incorrect. — RJH 17:52, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The dates here are consistent with the fuller page on the German Wikipedia. The links there also give those other dates, though. Charles Matthews 18:10, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The lunar crater Goclenius is named after the oldest son of Rudolf Goclenius, who not only has the same name as his father but, in addition, was also professor at the same university at Marburg. There is a German article on Rudolf Goclenius d. J. To avoid confusion, someone ought to make an english article. 134.93.192.167 12:55, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Article name Suggestion

If we are calling him Glöckel or Gockel in the article body shouldn't the article name be changed to reflect this? Theroadislong (talk) 20:14, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

I was just about to ask the same question. I agree, we need consistency either way between the title and the name used in the article.--ukexpat (talk) 21:20, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Christian Wolff

I removed the paragraph about his relationship with Wolff as Goclenius died before Wolff could ever be at his door.Leutha (talk) 11:04, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Contradiction:

"He [Marko Marulić] was also the first who defined and used the notion of psychology, which is today in current use." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marko_Maruli%C4%87 He lived 18 August 1450 – 5 January 1524. (According to the article.)

And now:

"Gockel’s main contribution to science was his invention of the term “psychology” in 1590." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_Goclenius

In 1590, that is, when Marko Marulić was already dead.
