Book section
Why is there a book section in the article? This looks more like advertisment. I think it should get removed. If you disagree it would mean that we need to add a book section to every other famous person as well - any idea how many books have been published about John Lennon, Kurt Cobain orMichael Jackson? Good luck with that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.44.233.96 (talk) 12:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- It would probably work better as a list, with the books written about the Manics while he was in them included as well --Drowninginlimbo (talk) 02:15, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
Literature and other cultural influences
Does anyone think it is worth expanding on this section, particularly the last part (Edwards' lyrics have often been of a highly poetic nature, particularly on the band's and at times they reflected his knowledge of political history)? There are lots of examples of lyrics where Edwards (or Edwards and Wire) drawi inspiration (or outright borrow) from writers, philosophers, artists, musicians and the like. For instance:
- The line 'Anxiety is freedom' from Stay Beautiful is a reference to The Concept of Anxiety by Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard
- The line 'Daylight bores the sunshine out of me' from Another Invented Disease is a direct rip from The Rolling Stones song Rocks Off lyrics 'The sunshine bores the daylights out of me'
- The line 'Beauty is such a terrible thing' from She Is Suffering comes from The Brothers Karamazov by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky, where he states "Beauty is a terrible and awful thing!'
- The line 'I am nothing and should be everything' from Methadone Pretty is a quote by revolutionary writer Karl Marx's Contribution To The Critique Of Hegel's Philosophy Of Law
- The line 'Little people, in little houses, small blind and worthless' from Of Walking Abortion is a quote regularly attributed to serial killer Ian Brady (and the title is a quote from The SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas)
