The quinceañera is the girl, not the party

It makes no sense to say that it is a celebration. The quinceañera is the girl herself. 82.36.70.45 (talk) 19:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Even if it's grammatically incorrect to call the celebration of a quinceañera (the person) a quinceañera itself, it is commonly called that. Wikipedia doesn't dictate language rules. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:23, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can we say that it is logically, semantically and grammatically nonsense? 82.36.70.45 (talk) 19:26, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
That would be WP:EDITORIALising, to point that out. But isn't the lead sufficient? It already states Template:Tq, making clear that quinceañera has different meanings in different cultures. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:58, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
It’s not different cultures (and I belong to both, you appear to be a Dutch guy), it’s different languages. 67.83.101.225 (talk) 15:52, 5 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can we please get rid of the "In popular culture" section?

It reads worse than TV Tropes and would have to be redone from scratch to be anything close to suitable. Stepwise Continuous Dysfunction (talk) 23:13, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think that is a FANTASTIC idea. Joyous! Noise! 23:16, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see that Soetermans already removed it once back in February 2024, but for some reason it was restored in June. Stepwise Continuous Dysfunction (talk) 23:18, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Eh, I disagree with the other commenter because I would prefer it turn it into a paragraph instead, which would require getting rid of the subheading "Quinceañera specials" and then the next paragraph would say (with more examples):

Quinceañeras have been shown in a lot in the movies, TV shows, documentaries and online series.[1] sometimes it could be found in books as way.[2] This has included episodes in animated series like The Casagrandes[3] Elena of Avalor,[4] Hailey's On It,[5] The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,[6] and The Owl House,[7] and other series such as Sesame Street[8] and Superman & Lois.[9]

Moving too quickly on this would be a big mistake. I plan on looking at ALL the entries in that section to see if they can be verified. To remove this section without the proper consultation would result in a loss of information which could be useful to users. I am throwing this together quickly since the original poster seems anxious to solve this "issue." Historyday01 (talk) 16:03, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not "anxious". I'm not even opposed to the existence of an "In popular culture" section in principle. I just think that as it stands, it's a terrible section that makes the article look worse and doesn't inform anyone about anything, while not even being grammatical. Does an episode center around a quinceañera, or does it feature one as a momentary joke (like BoJack Horseman did in its first episode)? What theme did the show use the event to explore? What aspects of culture were portrayed? Was anything caricatured or oversimplified? I'm entirely serious when I say that TV Tropes does better lists than this. There is nothing lost by deleting the whole section and then writing a better one. Holding onto it means risking the propagation of misleading, unverifiable claims. Stepwise Continuous Dysfunction (talk) 17:26, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I was probably a bit too harsh earlier, but the main thing I wanted to say was we shouldn't be too hasty, by which I mean that each section of this article should be approached systematically to add sources. It can be done. I've seen it happen with other pages. Anyway, your concerns here are valid. I cleaned up the popular culture section somewhat similarly to what I had above, but changed it. I think more sources could added from Google Scholar (I went to page two of this search) or elsewhere. Historyday01 (talk) 20:21, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It looks significantly better now. Stepwise Continuous Dysfunction (talk) 21:03, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Yes, it definitely looks better. Historyday01 (talk) 21:20, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
