Title?

Shouldn't this article be located at "Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone"? Pre-marital versions of article names are reserved for consorts aren't they? Craigy File:Flag of the United Kingdom.svg (talk) 22:32, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Uniform

There is a prominent picture of her in uniform - so what did she do in the war and what does the uniform represent? DavidFarmbrough 00:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Princess Alice held a number of honorary military appointments. In 1930, she became Colonel in Chief of the Pretoria Regiment as Viceregal Consort in South Africa. She was also made Commandant in Chief of the Women's Transport Service in 1933, by King George V. In Canada, she was made Honorary Commandant of the Women's Royal Canadian Air Force; Honorary Air Commandant of the Women's Royal Canadian Air Force; and, in honour of her aunt, Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll (also once a Viceregal Consort of Canada), Colonel in Chief of the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. As well as this, she was President of the Women's Section of the British Legion. She was active in supporting troops during the war, mainly through moral support and encouragement. I'm not sure what she's wearing in the picture, but it was probably a symbol, to show the people that she was a soldier like the rest of them (though she obviously didn't go to fight). When did this Princess Alice die ?

I recall watching the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, and this Princess Alice appeared on the palace balcony with all the other royals and the commentator said she was 98 and she was Queen Victoria's last grandchild. I had not heard of this princess before and went to look them up in the encyclopedia. However it says here she died in January 1981 and Prince Charles was married in July 1981. Was there some other very elderly princess at that time ?Eregli bob (talk) 16:14, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

You have the "right" Princess Alice. There was another "very elderly" (though not *as* elderly) princess Alice, the Duchess of Gloucester. But the Alice you mention as being 98 at the time was the Countess of Athlone. --Geekyroyalaficionado (talk) 19:41, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone → Princess Alice of AlbanyPrincess Alice of Albany – For most deceased princess of royal blood, their articles are title as they were known at birth (for example Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge). So I would suggest moving Princess Alice to the same. In any case, Princess Alice of Albany seems to be slightly more prevalent in this Ngram than Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone. Comment This Google Trend [2] does, however, show that "Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone" is slightly more popular in searches, but almost certainly not enough for WP:COMMONNAME to be considered. Estar8806 (talk) 21:34, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

• Comment It appears that the current name is as common as the suggested name, or even slightly more common. The nominator stated that Template:Tq. I really don't think we have a clear pattern in terms of article naming for princesses of royal blood, because for example Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll is not at "Princess Louise of the United Kingdom".
