I am almost certain that Poon Choi is only consumed in southern China. --Sgfhk321 07:52, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It was an invention in the Kam Tin and Yuen Long areas of the New Territories during the late Song Dynasty, when the royal family retreated there briefly to stay away from the Mongol troops. I even questioned whether it is served by the indigenious people of Shenzhen. — Instantnood 11:16, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

Another English translation

I saw Poon Choi translated as "Basin Cuisine" on HK TV one time. My personal translation before I knew any better was "Chinese Casserole".

Poon choi is just the tranliteration of its Chinese name -- that's one of the ways to translate non-English names. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 20:25, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hakka?

Is poon choi a Hakka cuisine? Or is it also served by Cantonese people from villages in the New Territories? — Instantnood 19:49, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Certainly it's a Hakka cuisine. [1] -- Jerry Crimson Mann 20:28, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. — Instantnood 20:44, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
This programme on ATV Home said there are actually three variants.. the Punti in walled villages, Hakka and Tanka. :-P — Instantnood 12:06, September 12, 2005 (UTC)
The link doesn't say it originates from Hakka cuisine, only that it can also be found in Hakka cuisine. I am therefore editing the line. InfernoXV (talk) 06:56, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
