I can't help but notice, the tempering process described in softening the planchet is rather counter intuitive. Heating a metal and then rapidly cooling it in fact makes the metal harder and more brittle, not softer and malleable. There is no citation contradicting this, does the author have some clarifying evidence? 144.82.106.41 (talk) 04:32, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Value

Do planchets have value if not made into coins e.g. a gold/silver disc as opposed to a gold/silver coin?--Auric (talk) 19:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes. The value of the metal in the coin. 129.118.128.128 (talk) 21:08, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

disambiguation

Planchet(te) is also used for any blank metal disk, particularly a zero-background single crystal sample holder for diffraction experiments, and several similar sample holders for use in radiochemistry. I am so busy, I will never, ever get to making a page and a disambiguation page. If someone is watching this, could they make that addition? Thank you. 129.118.128.128 (talk) 21:11, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
