Colour? Or Pattern?

I'm quite unsure that people refer to plaid worldwide as a colour, so I've changed it to "pattern", because I've heard of absolutely no one refer to it as a colour. It might be my location, but if you've heard otherwise, you can change it back without hesitation. DuckmanDrake 20:56 (EST), 17 April 2007

I to have never heard of it referred to as a color. However, someone else has. I'm just going to take the statement out until we can rectify the statement. SSaint04 11:43, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation Page

I'm not sure if this is a disambiguation page or not. The beginning seems like an article on plaid but the "other sources" at the end makes it look like a disambiguation pageZombieliving 21:54, 8 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Plaid, is a woven shawl or head covering. It can be plain or have pattern. It can be a tartan pattern. The word plaid does not mean tartan.

If plaid does not necessarily refer to the pattern, should the page be moved from Plaid (pattern)? The article currently seems like a disambig page instead of an article page. Pnkrockr 18:44, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
What should happen is that the page should be removed and/or renamed without the pattern reference. The fact that modern American English is incorrect in its usage does not make it right - it is NOT acceptable. As already stated, a plaid is a garment with or without pattern.Scunnerous (talk) 15:49, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

I've heard most people pronounce plaid "plad". Is this the universal pronunciation? I think it should be mentioned in the article none the less. 65.6.162.173 (talk) 20:10, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Funny, until I saw this disambiguaty page, I had always associated "plaid" (pronounced /plæd/ rhyming with "cad" or "cat") with the type of patterned flannel shirts, and "plaid" (pronounced /pled/ rhyming with "played") with a type of cloth usually woven in such a way to have a tartan pattern. For some reason, though spelled the same, and the patterns being similar, I had never associated them together. I wonder if this might be a US regional distinction.
Anyway, pronunciation, I think, should be mentioned. — al-Shimoni (talk) 04:47, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

I've cleared things up a bit here, removed some trivia too. Now it seems that all the important info is either at Tartan, Full plaid or Belted plaid. I think we can just merge this into the disambig page. Nick (talk) 16:33, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to start editing Plaid now, we can worry about deleting this page after the discussion. Nick (talk) 16:41, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
