Oregon County, Missouri → Oregon County – Script error: No such module "Distinguish". The disambiguation is unnecessary. Now, the new name could stay as a redirect, but the {{Distinguish}} template exists. Click on the template for details. Anyway, this is one of the rare cases where the unnecessary disambiguation is the article and the correct name is actually a redirect. That redirect is not technical. 143.179.74.165 (talk) 17:47, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Support per WP:OVERPRECISION.Simple reversal of a longstanding redirect. Station1 (talk) 18:21, 24 December 2024 (UTC)- Didn't realize counties came under WP:USPLACE, and they probably shouldn't; they're different from cities and towns. But they do, so I suppose we should be consistent. Station1 (talk) 22:24, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Even though I think its a good idea WP:USPLACE says the state should be kept. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:44, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Articles on U.S. counties also fall under the WP:USPLACE guidelines: "Articles on counties and parishes themselves are typically titled Template:Xt or Template:Xt." Like as stated on WP:Perennial proposals#Remove state from US placenames, appending the state is actually the preferred common usage in American English for such areas, and it provides a consistent titling convention across all articles on U.S. counties because a majority would require disambiguation anyway. Zzyzx11 (talk) 20:26, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose on the fact that there are a lot of US counties with unique names and there's nothing unique about why this county should be at the base name. (There are also a lot of duplicate county names so this isn't an argument against WP:USPLACE, which is the right place to discuss potentially having these articles without the state.) Skynxnex (talk) 15:52, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:USPLACE. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 20:28, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
