Link to Northern Indian subcontinent

In the first line of the article:

North India in a broader geographic context, refers to the northern part of India or, historically of the Indian subcontinent,

Can we put a link to Northern Indian subcontinent (which is currently a redirect to Northern South Asia)? GreekApple123 (talk) 02:12, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Link to Northern Indian subcontinentNorthern Indian subcontinent removed, because there is no distinct article about that. It's simply a redirect to Indian subcontinent. Some of Northern South Asia lies north of the Indian subcontinent. – wbm1058 (talk) 17:33, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Significant changes by PadFoot2008 without references or background knowledge

Hi @PadFoot2008! I noticed significant changes you have made to the page without proper references/sources. May I know, What is the reference here for regions - Northwest India, West India, Central India and East India are the sub-regions of North India? Also you have removed significant content from history in this edit. What you are trying to prove here? It seems from edit history, you wholly controlling this page. If you have any sources, do you have any plan to add History, Culture or Places of these regions? I think this Classification cant be done or should not be done on basis of language or group of languages (The only section you have changed or focused after adding these regions). Please try to understand this page is about the region called 'North India' and not about Indo-Aryan's or Indo-Aryan Languages or not about region outside of South India. For the article's scope, please see the discussions above. Also, I did not in the slightest "remove significant content" from the history section, rather I expanded the stub section manifold. And none of the content is unreferenced. The sub-regions parameter in the infobox is an index to the regions it covers, similar to the most populated cities for instance. And I am not "controlling" this article as you claim, I am reverting undiscussed changes as this is a high importance article. PadFoot (talk) 19:18, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Restored sourced stable/consensus version. If necessary, we can make some changes demonstrating core and other regions in the infobox, sourced content need not be removed. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect definition of North India

Why are Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Goa included in North India?? Whakayis (talk) 20:57, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

The following gives an overview of actual zones of India but to extend North till Goa is absurd. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are Central India. Maharashtra is mentioned as WEST in one of the sources added by whoever extended this. North India is, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, UTs of Chandigarh and Ladakh. Rest of those included here are Central India, Western India, and Eastern India.

Also, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. HilssaMansen19 (talk) 22:28, 8 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think the changes made to the article need to be clarified more comprehensively.
There is nothing wrong with suggesting that North India's boundaries are considered smaller by many sources (and in a somewhat logical manner, since it allows for discussing the region which is left over after excluding the other directional regions of India, such as the West, South, East, etc.) - for now, I am going to call this smaller version of North India the "mid-North" . But the information clarifying that North India is sometimes seen as a much bigger entity (maybe "Greater North"?) should be kept in along with the map that showed the larger boundaries, as this is legitimate information which shows how some of those discussing "North India" wish to be understood.
I think in the long run, a couple of items should be resolved:
  1. Maybe some kind of separate article is required to discuss the mostly Indo-Aryan regions of India, since there is seemingly persistent discomfort around identifying those areas with "North India".
  2. The map for Northwest India (which has been requisitioned for this article by the above editor apparently) probably should show Uttar Pradesh in a lighter shade of red (perhaps differentiating between Western Uttar Pradesh and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, if sourced) and Gujarat in an even lighter shade, to show that they are not as consistently considered northwestern. The map used to identify mid-North India should be then discussed by editors and created as a separate file.
(Note: the map for Northwest India was created by a rename of another file. That might require looking into and then maybe duplicating and splitting the files as appropriate). GreekApple123 (talk) 19:14, 31 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question for administrator

Template:Admin help/helped This page lists almost entire India as North India which is not only a false claim but absurd. If we check Central India, Eastern India or this zonal image which is actually more accurate [2], we know that even West India has been included in North. The reason of this is unclear. It might have something to do with racial distinction or equivalence as North Indians are generally categorised or referred as Indo-Aryans. It is seen as a superiority over the others on internet but it doesn't matter and should not be misrepresented here. In general, North India refers to, Rajasthan, New Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, UTs of Chandigarh and Ladakh. Sources that have been added in the Infobox (next to states) refute these claims as well for example one places Maharashtra in the West.

I request an independent administrator who has not engaged in this article previously to kindly check it and remove the questionable data.

This alleged problem does not require an administrator to resolve.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:54, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply. Yeah, not that big of an issue but the reason to ask an admin is they can stop re-adding of the same data. I have edited the article and added two best sources excluding already existing ones. If possible, can you check the edits and share your guidance. HilssaMansen19 (talk) 07:45, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
