Doctorate

There seems to be some confusion about Fillion’s academic qualifications following his having posted in Instagram that he “is now a doctor.” Fillion was awarded an honorary degree by Concordia University of Edmonton, his hometown, this weekend. Concordia’s graduation program does not identify the degree earned, but Fillion’s regalia suggests a LLD (Doctor of Law and Letters), which is often awarded to people in the arts. Regardless, he is not: a) a doctor in the sense of being a physician, which I think some folks might belief and; b) not entitled to use the title “Dr.” which is limited to graduates holding an earned academic doctorate such as a Ph.D., any of another number of practitioner doctorates such as a D.Pt. or Ed.D., or a physician. Hopefully, this will clear up any confusion. Drmargi (talk) 23:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
