Mothering Sunday and Cybele
Actually, contrary to the above statement, Mothering Sunday IS "mothers day" as we know it today. It was where the tradition originally started. Many christian people, not just priests and such, would return to their mother church on this day. Some of them would pick flowers in the church yard and go visit their mother. Hence, the first Mothers day GIFTS as well.
However, that is not my purpose here. There is a mistake on the page. The Greeks who worshipped Cybele were NOT a cult, it was a more Pagan-style religion. Only a Christian would call Pagans (and other religions) a "cult", or even a devil-worshipper. Please fix this.

Script error: No such module "protected edit request". In 1908, the U.S. Congress rejected a proposal to make Mother's Day an official holiday, joking that they would also have to proclaim a "Mother-in-law's Day".Italic text[16] However, owing to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, by 1911 all U.S. states observed the holiday,[17] with some of them officially recognizing Mother's Day as a local holiday[18] (the first being West Virginia, Jarvis's home state, in 1910). In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother's Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.[19]
I believe it should say "Mother's-in-law Day." I could be wrong but I'm almost positive LOL. If the spelling of Mother's is wrong, the parentheses should go after the period in the sentence. ThunderBeard82 (talk) 10:50, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
