Divides west from east, south and Midwest?
This is incorrect. It divides east and west but both the south and Midwest are on both sides. Arkansas is on the west, and Iowa is on the west. Mississippi is in the east, and Illinois is on the east. Alexander R. Burton (talk) 17:54, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- It looks like that was added with this edit back in 2011 without a source. I'll rework the paragraph. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 20:10, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Nature reserves
I miss the nature reserves like Wilderness Area , State parks und other Protected areas. Only the areas from the National Park Service are listed. Falkmart (talk) 09:07, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

- File:Red question icon with gradient background.svg Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Sincerely, Guessitsavis (she/they) (Talk) 21:18, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Old River Control Structure; Atchafalaya wording
The Old River Control Structure does not "allow" the Atchafalaya to be a major distributary, it prevents it from becoming the main distributary. Thermah (talk) 02:03, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Mention divide of call signs?
Currently, radio and TV call signs start with a W east of the Mississippi River, and a K west if the river. Of course there are exceptions like KYW-TV, but over 99% of radio and TV station call signs follow this.
I propose we add this as a small section to the article, and link to the article Call signs in the United States as one of those "main article" things. Evrstz (talk) 01:16, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
Oxbow Lakes
according to google and chatgpt the mississippi river had roughly 1500 oxbow lakes, i asked copilot and it said about 700, but then i went to find the truth and go to google earth, start looking everything in the river and count, i counted 174 confirmed ones and 35 ones that are Debatable if ones are not, having a total of 209 Oxbow Lakes, they are mostly in minnesota. am i right? Douglas15amor (talk) 15:17, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- A lot probably depends upon definitions, but there are oxbows all along the Mississippi. That being said, counting them up like this would probably be considered original research. You need to find a reliable source that states the number and then use that. For example, the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (from the Illinois–Missouri border to the Gulf of Mexico) has more than "1300 permanent lakes totaling over 100,000 ha."[1] —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 17:29, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- but i spend 2 hours searching, my biggest pain is the oxbow lakes in minnesota, especially in front of ball club lake, white Oak lake, little white oak lake. Douglas15amor (talk) 23:21, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
