Original research?

The OR tag is still present on the article, but there's no discussion here. If the material has been moved to the archives, I presume the issue is now moot; I propose removing the tag. Discussion? -- Elphion (talk) 18:47, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Concur. There are still some unsupported statements - especially with regards CRT editorialising the Silmarillion, but they can be dealt with and tagged individually. Davémon (talk) 17:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Consistency in mythological history

I hope that I will remember to come back here to check up on this, as it seems that Tolkien Scholarship is taking up more and more of my time, despite the fact that I am trying to become a Cognitive Scientist and Cyberneticist (although, I already am an Art Historian, and managed to study with Joseph Campbell for three months in 1985).

I just wanted to point out regarding Campbell and Tolkien's work.

Joseph Campbell makes a point of saying that Mytho-History does not need to be consistent, that there are many truths, and that they often contradict the factual history upon which the myths have been founded (And I have seen experimental demonstrations of this where myths arise concerning events that have a deep impact upon our psyche). Take 9-11, for instance. There are many stories that contradict each other. Yet there is surely an actual history, which may not be known by any one person, or by any persons at all.

So, research on the History of Tolkien's Canon should include everything that he has written on Middle-earth, contradictory or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthew R Bailey (talk • contribs) 03:59, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
