Picture?

How does an article so long and complete about arguably the best female football (soccer) player of all time, doesn't have a picture? Miguelfp1 00:18, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Points

My excellent deductive qualities tell me the 'points' are goals*2 + assists, but would it be possible with a link/explanation of how and why a 'points' category is necessary and what its function is? Coming from Europe, I haven't seen this attempt to 'mix' the two functions, goals and assists, before, and in Europe the assists don't even figure in any statistics (however unfairly to the supporting players), other than the extremely devoted sources, so I take it it's an American tradition? Just put it down to an American fascination with applying a huge amount of stats to all sports. Assists are commonly recorded in Basketball. Just be glad they don't also give you the yards gained, number of shots made / missed / on target, etc etc as they do in American Football!--Richardb43 03:52, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

What was her number?

In the picture it looks like #9, and that's the same as I remember from having watched her on TV, but was she always #9? Did she have different numbers in WUSA, with the National Team, at UNC, etc.? Hamm's Position

Given that this is an encyclopedia article, shouldn't Hamm's position be in the summary? Error in statistics

"Hamm retired with 158 international goals, more than fifty ahead of any other player (male or female)". That is currently incorrect as Iranian footballer Ali Daei currently has 109 international goals, only 49 goals less than Hamm's total goal count. Hello. User:71.155.237.145, just changed the number of siblings that Mia has. Can anyone provide any references to back-up the changes? Without references, it is difficult to know whether the old version is in error, or the new version. Women's national team? Duh

Anyone else questioning the need to add the qualifier "women's" in the section header describing Hamm's service to the US National Team? Was there any question that a female player would be on the women's team? - RPIRED 23:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

The word "women's" is there because some sports are only for men or women. Women's is just there to tell you which team. Some people might think she played for the men's team or something else. "I don't care what you think" 13:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Mia born with clubfoot condition

There are dozens of articles, including some in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clubfoot , mentioning Mia as a famous person who had a clubfoot deformity when she was born. Goals?!

"she scored more international goals in her career than any other player, male or female, in the history of the sport (158)." I think this is very inaccurate. Search for the Pelé article, says: "Pelé's goalscoring record is often reported as being 1280 goals in 1363 games", that is 1122 more goals than Hamm. And there are male players everywhere that had scored more goals than Ms. Hamm. This should be corrected. The operative word you missed there is "international". Most of Pele's reported goals were for club sides, I think. How many "A" international goals did Pele score? --Mosmof (talk) 16:42, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Lead Para POV

Seems the lead is written as an advocacy of her and of Title IX. There's no conclusive evidence to say Title IX allowed her to have a scholarship. She could have gotten one without Title IX's help. Team 1993–2001?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but what did Mia Hamm do, on club level, between 1993 and 2001? Was she married and raised children (or other stuff) during those years?--Paracel63 (talk) 09:15, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

There was no 'club level' for professional female soccer players in the United States until 2001, when Women's United Soccer Association was formed. Before that, it was virtually all national team competitions. - 75.178.13.124 (talk) 07:22, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

1998 GOODWILL GAMES/ MIA HAMM

Good morning, I realize that nothing is mentioned of Mia participating in the 1998 GOODWILL GAMES that was held in New York City. In particular, Track and Field events were conducted at Mitchell Field Long Island, Nassau County, where I was assigned a Security role while representing Navy Recruiting District New York. That position gave me the opportunity for Mia to autograph my Goodwill Games T-Shirt.

Unclear statement

Greets: "She also leads the team with most assists with 144." is in the beginning of the article. That bit doesn't mention which team is being discussed and the portion discusses I believe 3 different teams. No reference is provided either. Can someone clarify please? Time magazine cover

After much digging, it doesn't look to me like Mia Hamm is featured on the Women's World Cup cover of Time that's cited in the "In Popular Culture" section.
